Outdoor adventure park for families

"The Crocky Trail" in Chester, England, is a popular outdoor attraction that caters mainly to families and adventure seekers. This unique adventure park is located in the picturesque landscape of Cheshire, just a stone's throw away from the historic city of Chester, and offers a mix of nature experience, physical challenge, and carefree fun. Originally designed as a small farm with simple play opportunities, the park has evolved over the years into an extensive adventure area that attracts visitors from the entire region. It is particularly known for its creative, often self-built attractions that create a rustic and down-to-earth atmosphere.

Adventure trail with obstacles for kids

The centerpiece of the park is the approximately one-mile-long adventure trail that winds through fields, forests, and along a small stream called the Crocky Stream. This trail is filled with obstacles that require skill, courage, and sometimes a bit of overcoming fears. Highlights include wobbly rope bridges crossing the stream, a swaying chain bridge, and a fallen tree trunk serving as a natural crossing. Particularly popular with children and adults alike are the numerous slides scattered along the way. For example, the "Flusher" slide is an almost vertical descent that is wetted with water, providing a thrilling adrenaline rush. Equally spectacular is the "Titanic" slide, which slowly rises before sliding down at a steep angle – an experience meant to mimic the thrill of a sinking ship.

Family-friendly activities in Chester

In addition to the main trail, there are plenty of other attractions to round out the day. In the central area of the park, near the entrance, exciting rides such as anti-gravity carousels that spin visitors into dizzying turns, or huge air cushions for bouncing, await visitors. For younger children, there is the "Wonderland" zone with smaller slides, a ball pit, and swings specially tailored to their needs. Another highlight is the zip lines and climbing structures scattered throughout the area, inviting visitors to explore the surroundings from above. The park emphasizes that the activities are not only fun but also offer a touch of risk – of course, within a safe framework – distinguishing it from sterile amusement parks and evoking carefree childhood memories.

Nature experience in Cheshire adventure park

The atmosphere at the Crocky Trail is relaxed and lively. Laughter, screams of excitement, and the sound of water splashing can be heard everywhere as someone unintentionally takes a shower at one of the many obstacles. The park intentionally maintains a rustic feel: most structures are made of wood, metal, and ropes, often with a charming, slightly improvised character. This gives the place an authentic touch that many visitors appreciate. For breaks, there are numerous picnic spots – whether at tables under trees, in small treehouses, or on benches overlooking the stream. Those who do not bring their own food can replenish at the "Crocky Bites" café, offering simple but delicious food such as pizza, burgers, or ice cream. The quality of the snacks is often praised, and the portions are generous.

Fun slides for all age groups

A special feature of the Crocky Trail is its family-friendliness. While the more challenging obstacles are more suitable for older children and adults, there are also plenty of opportunities for toddlers to let off steam. The park is also designed for parents to actively participate, making it a place where shared experiences take center stage. However, the terrain is not accessible to everyone without restrictions: it can get muddy in the rain, and some sections of the trail require a certain level of physical fitness. Nonetheless, there is an easier path parallel to the main trail that is also accessible with strollers, as long as the weather remains dry.

The Crocky Trail is renowned for its excellent value for money and the variety of offerings. Visitors appreciate being kept busy all day without it becoming monotonous. Seasonal events, such as Halloween specials or summer festivals with additional activities, make a visit worthwhile even on repeated trips. Criticism is rare, although some parents may complain about the queues on particularly busy days or the condition of some older attractions that could use a refresh.

The kids had a blast. Various slides and activities to do. The kids never stopped enjoying themselves and were entertained thoroughly. Lots to do and plenty to eat. Great day out.

Had a great day out with my 11 year old son who has been here previously but was really excited to go back. It was busy but didn't have to wait for most of the slides or other activities. Would definitely recommend taking a trip!

I think this is a very good family friendly place I would not recommend for any wheelchair users but other than that it is a very fun place to visit not matter the weather I have been and it has been cold and raining and I have been and it has been amazing still I have also been in the warm and it is just as fantastic I would highly recommend

Very nice place. There is a forest trail here, lots of nice toys and games, and there is also a treehouse here. The place is open until 5 pm (17), and it opens at 10 am. You can stay as long as you like, and there are some games suitable for everyone even adults. There is an ice cream place here, and there are tall slides and you need wristbands to enter. This place is very good and I highly recommend this outdoor theme park.

Nice day out with my little boy but there wasn't much to do for his age <4>. He was free as he was under five and at £13 an adult it wasnt very expensive. There was a few slides or he could kick a ball but the objectives were too much for him to fully understand what to do and the slides were still quiet tall for him. He enjoyed the trail with lots of different swings but again they were all quite big for him. Probably better for 7yrs and up but he did have fun exploring the trail. Be aware it can be very slippery along the trail and he did almost slip into the little stream so I'd recommend extra clothes to change into at the car. There was a small area for under 5s at the beginning of the trail that had a swing, slide, some play houses a bouncy castle and water explore area. Over all a nice day out but not for his age (4) The onsite cafe was reasonably priced and was tasty with good space to sit but not alot of space at peak times. Facilities were generally clean even though it was a very muddy day

Such a good day out with the family. Kids had an amazing time and were well worn out after the day. The trail has so many activities and a great path around. The park is well maintained and you can tell they put money back into it with new things as well as maintaining the older equipment.

Lots of activities, although some were a little tired. Probably more to do for older children however our 5 yr and 3 yr old grandchildren really enjoyed it. Would recommend a visit.

The kids seemed to love all the slides. The House of Horrors was very underwhelming, but otherwise we had a nice day out. Food and drink someone on site and service was very quick.

It's such a great family day out! We did the whole trail, took a picnic as we arrived as lunchtime was approaching and there are plenty of places to sit together as you make your way around. There's stuff for everybody to try, both small kids and big ones too. We used to come here as children with our dad and so it was great for us to be there again with our kids too. I love the inverted drop slide way too much for someone who is nearly 40. My football mad son liked the skill games they have near the entrance.Despite the good weather today the whole place didn't feel crowded and we only had to line up to try one or two of the attractions. We were prepared for mud - you should be - and got away OK. On tickets we paid at the gate and I don't think it would have been cheaper to book in advance. I imagine in high summer the trail is really popular, so I'd recommend booking then but it's probably not essential at this time of year.
